Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment is applied to restore lost function and aesthetics in the jaw and facial region. Dental treatment methods used for the correction of crowded teeth continue to improve every day. One of these methods is the clear aligner system, known as invisible braces.

Orthodontic Treatment: Braces and Clear Aligners (Wire-Free Treatment)

Orthodontic specialists recommend that children undergo orthodontic evaluation before the age of 10. At this age, enough permanent teeth have erupted to identify potential problems. However, it is not necessary to wait until all permanent teeth have fully erupted.

Starting orthodontic treatment at an early age has many advantages. For example, as children grow, expansion appliances can be modified to adjust the width of the palate, allowing teeth to erupt in a more proper alignment. Performing such treatments at an early age increases the patient’s orthodontic potential.

What Is Orthodontics? Who Is It Applied To?

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of dental crowding, incompatibilities between teeth, and disorders in jaw relationships. Its goal is not only to achieve an aesthetic smile but also to improve chewing function, enhance speech, and protect long-term dental health.

Crowded teeth are more prone to tooth decay and gum diseases because they cannot be cleaned properly; therefore, orthodontic treatment is also a preventive form of treatment.

Orthodontic treatment can be applied to children, adolescents, and adults. With advances in technology, treatment options have diversified, making more aesthetic solutions possible for adult patients. For this reason, orthodontics is no longer considered a treatment unique to childhood; it has also become a preferred treatment method among adults.

Clear Aligner (Invisible Braces) Treatment (Invisalign)

Clear aligner treatment is a modern orthodontic method that enables the gradual correction of teeth using custom-made aligners planned digitally. Also known as Invisalign, this system was developed especially for patients with aesthetic concerns. Since the aligners are transparent, they are almost unnoticeable from the outside, preventing loss of confidence in social and professional life during treatment.

Because clear aligners are removable, they provide great convenience during eating and oral hygiene routines. Compared to fixed braces, maintaining oral hygiene is easier. In addition, since they do not contain metal, the risk of irritation to the cheeks and lips is quite low. They are an effective alternative for patients with mild to moderate dental crowding who prefer wire-free orthodontic correction.

Clear Aligners or Braces?

The choice between clear aligners and braces depends on the patient’s dental structure, the severity of crowding, jaw relationships, and expectations from treatment. While clear aligners provide sufficient results in mild to moderate cases, braces may be more effective in advanced crowding and complex bite disorders.

Clear aligners offer advantages in terms of aesthetics and comfort, whereas braces can be applied to a wider range of cases. Therefore, there is no single “best” method for every patient. The most appropriate decision is made after a detailed clinical examination and radiological evaluation by an orthodontist.

Types of Braces (Metal – Ceramic)

There are different types of brackets used in orthodontic treatment. Metal braces have been used safely for many years due to their durability and effectiveness. They provide especially effective results in advanced cases and are generally more economical.

Ceramic (clear) braces are preferred by patients with aesthetic concerns because their structure is closer to the natural tooth color. They are less noticeable than metal braces while offering equally effective treatment. Both systems provide successful results with proper planning and regular follow-ups.

Orthodontic Treatment in Adults

Today, orthodontic treatment has become increasingly common among adults. Increased aesthetic awareness and the growing importance of a confident smile in social and professional life play a major role in this trend. Adult patients often seek invisible solutions, making clear aligners and invisible braces particularly popular.

In adults, treatment duration may be slightly longer compared to children because bone development has been completed; however, with proper planning, highly successful results can be achieved. Age is not a barrier to orthodontic treatment. What matters most is that the teeth and gums are healthy.

Orthodontic Examination in Children

Orthodontic examinations in children allow early diagnosis of serious orthodontic problems that may develop in the future. The ideal age for the first check-up is generally around 7 years old. During this period, jaw development and tooth eruption directions can be evaluated, and early intervention can be planned if necessary.

Early interceptive treatments can prevent longer and more complex orthodontic treatments later on. Therefore, regular dental and orthodontic check-ups are of great importance for children.

Orthodontic (Braces) Prices 2026

Orthodontic and braces prices vary depending on the treatment method applied, treatment duration, severity of dental crowding, and materials used. The costs of options such as clear aligners, ceramic braces, and metal braces differ from each other.

It is not possible to provide an exact price for 2026, as each patient’s needs are different. Therefore, the most accurate pricing is determined after a detailed treatment plan prepared following an orthodontic examination.
